According to the service records Earle was a 23 year old labourer living in Gilgandra when he joined on August 20, 1914 and was attested at Roseberry on August 28, 1914. After training he embarked with the 1st Light Horse on the ‘Star of Victoria’ in October 1914, to camp and train in Egypt at Mena Camp.

Private Frost arrived at Gallipoli in May 1915. He was wounded in July 1915 and arrived in Alexandria via Mudros on the Hospital Transport ‘Caledonia’.

He remained in Egypt with the 1st Light Horse and on July 23, 1916 Earle was taken on strength with the Machine Gun Company. From September 9-24, 1916 he attended the School of Instruction and rejoined the unit on September 25, 1917. He served through Sinai and Palestine with the Light Horse Machine Gun Squadron.

In July and August 1918 he was sick and admitted to hospital through the Casualty Clearing Station and moved to the British 31st General Hospital in Cairo. The sickness was not stated in the records.

On November 15, 1918 he commenced his return to Australia on the ‘Port Darwin’ and was discharged on February 25, 1919.
