ANDERSON Albert Edgar
Albert was a 19 year old farmer of Bearbong, Gilgandra NSW when he enlisted on 18 November 1915. The Nominal Roll states he enlisted in Dubbo on 28 October 1915.
He embarked from Sydney on the HMAT ‘Nestor’ on 9 April 1916 with the 20th Battalion. He served in France and was wounded with a gunshot wound to the Right knee on 20 September 1917 and wounded in the back on 19 May 1918. After treatment in England, Albert served in France from November 1918 until April 1919.
As part of the employment scheme, Albert was a shearer on the St Nicholson Harkston Manor at Barton on Avonlea, Lincolnshire from May to July in 1919. While there he married Elsie Ivy Amos of Brantwood. Elsie was a typist with the Records Office and her father, Joseph Amos was a picture framer.
Albert returned to Australia with his wife and child on the ‘Marathon’ November 1919.
Albert was discharged on 23 February 1920 with the rank of Corporal. He was issued the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
