James was a 26 year old carpenter of Richmond NSW when he enlisted on 24 October 1915. He embarked from Sydney on board HMAT RMS ‘Osterley’ on 15 January 1916 with the Australian Remount Unit2, 3rd Re-enforcement. James served in France with the 10 Field Artillery Brigade. Corporal James Alderton returned to Australia on board the “China’ on 1 May 1919 and was discharged 3 August 1919.
He was issued the Victory Medal and the British War Medal. James died 1 December 1964 age 76 and is commemorated in the NSW Garden of Remembrance.
